How it works

Why use this one

What you get

No artifacts around text

JPEG smears the edges of letterforms. PNG doesn't, which matters when the image will be zoomed or reprinted.

Right format for diagrams

Flat color, sharp boundaries and thin lines all survive PNG intact.

Predictable for further editing

Lossless output means you can edit and re-save without accumulating degradation.

Questions

Common questions

PNG or JPG — which should I use?

PNG if the page is mostly text, tables or diagrams. JPG if it's mostly photographs, where PNG will produce a much larger file for no visible gain.

Why are my PNGs so much bigger than JPGs would be?

PNG never discards data. On a photographic page that means several times the file size. That's the trade you're making for losslessness.

Can I get transparent backgrounds?

No. PDF pages have a defined white background, and that's what renders. Transparency would have to be cut in an image editor afterwards.

Is there a page limit?

No fixed limit, but rendering a few hundred pages at print resolution will use a lot of memory. Split the file first if your browser struggles.

Does this work offline?

Once the page and its libraries are loaded, the rendering itself is local. The initial page load needs a connection.
